Descendants is a special art project, which aims to commomorate Anzac & Turkish Gallipoli War history and the unique connections between the two nations. Through this project, Turkish / Australian artist Mertim Gokalp seeks to explore the reflections of a war on the generation of the present.

The Descendants Project

is a portrait-painting exhibition, consisting of 20 paintings; 10 of which are the descendants of ANZAC servicemen and the other 10 are the descendants of Turkish servicemen who served in Gallipoli, Turkey during the WWI.

Carrying on the theme of objects in portraits, Gokalp has portrayed each descendant holding/wearing an object, which once belonged to his/her ancestor, representing connections to the past.
